About Westwind Alternate School
The Westwind Alternate School has stand-alone facilities in Cardston and Raymond and a satellite campus in Magrath. The administrator and staff collaborate with all other divisional schools to ensure the educational needs of individual students and families are accommodated and supported. Ten certified teachers (9.1 FTE) have responsibility for the development, supervision and evaluation of individual program plans. Programs, delivery methods, instructional options, enrichment activities and individual program plans are designed to meet the unique learning styles and circumstances of each student.
The total full time student population is approximately 200. This does not include the significant number of grade 10-12 Outreach students who are taking the majority of their courses through a local high school and one or two courses through our school. We normally support 150 to 200 “shared” courses (a FTE of between 20 and 30 students)

Programs
Outreach 9-12
Making Learning Meaningful
Outreach programs are specifically designed to meet the flexible delivery options needed by some high school students. Courses are fully accredited. Delivery methods are designed around a one room school model. Student teacher ratios are kept low. This ensures support is concentrated and campus time is always efficient.
Personalized Education Program (Print-based distance learning 620) 1-9
Freedom via Choice
A student centered teaching program provides options, structure, and expert support. This gives you the freedom of choice to make realistic choices about what matters most for your children. Close collaborative connections to school structures ensure your student’s most important needs can be met. Curricular alignment ensures easy transitions to and from traditional school systems.
Home Education 1-12
Freedom and Independence
This program enables parents to design, deliver, assess and supervise a complete educational program. Content goals, while fairly general, are clearly specified by Alberta Home Education Regulations. Parents write & submit a program plan. At the end of the year they share evidence of learning.
